In the 1980s, The Guide Dog Association implemented a breeding and research program for an allergy-friendly Guide dog. This was the start of the Australian, multi-generation Labradoodle as we know it today.
The Labradoodle started out as a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle.
The Australian Labradoodle has been developed over the years. The founders of the Australian Labradoodle, Tegan Park, and Rutland Manor infused several other breeds into the early generation lines of their Labrador retriever / Poodle crosses. This was to achieve consistency in the temperament and coat that we have today.
Dogs from the Australian cross were bred for several generations to create what is also known as “multi-generation” Australian Labradoodles.

Australian Labradoodles are known for their incredible temperaments. This is why they make excellent therapy dogs as well as family pets.
Many of our pups have gone on to be trained as therapy dogs for both adults and children; some even work in hospitals and care homes. They have also been trained as assistance dogs and guide dogs.
Australian Labradoodles just love to be loved and are very sociable dogs. They are best suited to homes where they will get as much love as possible. They would not be suited to a home where no one would be at home all day long.
Dogs from these infusions have been bred together to continue the Australian, multi-generation lines.

The Australian Labradoodle is much more likely to be low to non-shedding and allergy-friendly than other types of Labradoodles. For example, the first generation Labrador Retriever / Poodle crosses or first-generation crosses bred back to Poodles. Even when the Labrador Retriever / Poodle crosses are bred for several generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle. The other foundation breeds are not there to enhance their basic qualities.
The authentic Australian Labradoodle is the result of six or more successive generations of careful breeding. The result is a healthy, well-tempered dog with a non-shedding allergy-friendly coat.
Allergy-friendly means that 95% of people with asthma and/or allergies will not have reactions to the dander or the coat of the Australian Labradoodle. The small population of people that have allergies to Australian Labradoodles are most likely allergic to dog saliva. They will generally react to any breed of dog, shedding or not.
The Australian Labradoodle is available in three sizes, Standard (largest), Medium, and Miniature (smallest). The appearance is the same for all three sizes. The Labradoodle is a compact dog that is athletic yet graceful and always appears to be happy. The coat should be non-shedding and as allergy-friendly as possible. We breed Australian Labradoodles in all colours: Apricot, caramel, chocolate, cream, black, parti and phantom.
